We undertake onsite crankpin repair, crankpin grinding and crankpin polishing of crankshaft diameter ranging from 30 mm to 700 mm. This is undertaken by lightweight, easy to operate and portable onsite crankshaft grinding machine which is taken to the site. We have team of experienced technicians having valid passport and CDC. They can travel to any destination in the world in the shortest possible time with portable crankshaft grinding equipment and can also undertake repairs while sailing of vessel. Following procedure is generally followed for successful onsite crank pin repair of crankshaft:

  1. Initial dimensional inspection of crankpin is undertaken by calibrated measuring instruments for taper, ovality and other parameters.
  2. Radius fillet, lubricating oil hole of crankpin is checked for any loss of profile and damage.
  3. Crack detection test by high-intensity MPI torch is undertaken by level 3 qualified technicians.
  4. Hardness check and other important parameters are checked and recorded.

After the initial inspection, in case required grinding and polishing of crankpin is undertaken to maintain the tolerances strictly as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

The onsite crankshaft grinding machine used by RA Power Solutions engineers for grinding and polishing of crankpin and crankpin repair is self-designed and is improved from time to time.

Crankpin Grinding | Crankpin Repair By Insitu Crankshaft Grinding Machine – RA Power Solutions

Crankpin grinding, and crankpin repair by in situ crankshaft grinding machine is offered by RA Power Solutions through a highly motivated team of technicians who have the experience of more than four decades in crankshaft grinding and crankshaft repair. It is important that the crankshaft is initially inspected by experienced technicians in order to detect the fault after the damage or accident.

The following are the major parameters that are examined before the repair of the crankshaft:

  • The minimum and maximum diameter of the crankpin and main journal, taper, and ovality are checked.
  • Run out of main journals and deflection readings are taken to verify the loss of alignment.
  • A complete non-destructive test using MPI and ultraviolet lamp for heat cracks is undertaken of crankpins and the main journal of the crankshaft.
  • The crankshaft is also subject to a hardness test.

Based on the preliminary inspection reports prepared by the technicians, the repair procedure is planned. The onsite crankshaft grinding machine used for the crankshaft repair is lightweight and is placed on the damaged crank pin from the inspection window of the engine block. There is no requirement to remove the crankshaft from the Entablature and send it to the workshop, as bench-type grinders are now outdated.

The crankshaft grinding and crankshaft polishing are undertaken to maintain taper and ovality, surface finish as per the OEM requirement. RA Power Solutions has facilities to undertake in situ crankshaft grinding, crankshaft polishing, and repair of crankshafts up to the diameter of 700 mm without removing the crankshaft from the engine block.

During and after the repairs, all the major technical parameters are checked and a calibration report is prepared. It is possible to execute the crankshaft grinding and crankshaft repair on board a vessel while it is sailing. Technicians have seaman passports and can travel to any part of the world in the shortest possible time, thus attending to the damaged engine in a short time. We are class-approved and stand to guarantee the satisfactory performance of the crankshaft after repairs.
