4. Hardness testing revealed acceptable levels, with minor exceptions in a few spots, which were determined not to be harmful.
5. MPI testing for cracks showed minor hairline cracks, but all other parameters were within acceptable limits.

Actions Taken by RA Power Solutions Technicians:
1. The grinding of all six (6) crankpins was undertaken by our insitu crankshaft grinding machine.
2. The 3 number of crankpins diameter was reduced by 1.00 MM, and the final size was maintained as 174.00 MM.
3. The 3 number of crankpins diameter was reduced by 1.50 mm, and the final size was maintained at 173.50 MM.

FAQ
1. What caused the crankshaft damage?
The crankshaft was damaged due to the malfunctioning of the lubricating oil pump. Damage to the lubrication pump caused damage to all connecting rod bearings and all six crankpins.
2. How was the HIMSEN HYUNDAI 6H 17/28 crankshaft repaired?
The crankshaft was fixed onboard by using an in situ crankshaft grinding machine. All six crankpins were ground and polished without taking out the crankshaft from the vessel.
3. Why were hardness and MPI tests carried out?
Tests for hardness and MPI were conducted to ascertain the condition of the crankshaft. Only minor hairline cracks were found, and hence, the crankshaft was ready for in situ repairs.
4. What was the final result after crankshaft grinding?
All six crankpins were returned to the desired undersize after grinding. The final taper and ovality tolerances were ensured to be less than 0.02 mm.
5. Why choose in situ crankshaft repair?
Crankshaft repairs on the vessel save time and money since the crankshaft can be fixed without dismantling the engine.
