RA Power Solutions undertakes crankshaft repair, crankshaft grinding, and polishing on-site all over the world. The company is extending 24/7 emergency service for the repair of the crankshaft of main and auxiliary engines on board a vessel or land-based installations worldwide. We are having experience 47 years of experience in the field of engine repair, and with the latest technology in the equipment, we are considered to be the most knowledgeable company in the world. Our response time in case of an emergency is unbeatable. We have developed an onsite portable, lightweight crankshaft grinding machine up to the diameter of 700 mm, which is kept ready all the time to be taken on the vessel or to any Diesel Engine installation all over the world.
The client has the definite advantage of awarding crankshaft repair, crankshaft grinding, and crankshaft machining work to us, as we have carried out the repair of over 10,000 crankshafts having serious damage and were saved from rejection. We are confident of our workmanship and design of equipment, and can repair your shaft successfully without stripping it down from the engine and transporting it to the workshop.

The following procedure is adopted for the successful repair of the crankshaft:
- Calibrated and modern instruments are used to undertake a preliminary inspection of the crankshaft as follows:
- Dimensional inspection to check taper and ovality
- Crack detection by MPI/ultrasound or dye penetrant
- Hardness test
- Surface test to check surface roughness
- Inspection to check the straightness of the crankshaft
- Lube oil and radius fillet profile check
- Visual inspection
- All the readings and observations are recorded in the inspection format, and onsite repair planning is done in consultation with our senior engineer.
- After inspection, grinding, and repair of the crankshaft, the following parameters are achieved:
- Taper and ovality of the crankpin and main journal after grinding and polishing can be achieved within 0.02 mm.
- The lubrication oil hole and radius fillet profile can be given as per the original profile.
- The presence of cracks and hardness readings is taken and recorded.
- Straightness and run-out are maintained as per the manufacturer’s specifications. A surface finish of less than 20 RA values can be maintained and achieved.
All the crankshaft grinding services, crankshaft repair, crankshaft grinding, and polishing jobs executed by RA Power Solutions are guaranteed for satisfactory performance. Price-wise, we are considered to be the lowest in the international market.
We also have engine crankpin bearings available in our stock for various engine models from Wärtsilä, MAN B&W, Sulzer, Yanmar, Daihatsu, MAK, Caterpillar, Cummins, Deutz, Mitsubishi, Allen, Himsen, and Niigata.

FAQ
1. What is the difference between crankpin machining and crankshaft journal machining?
The crankpin is the part of the crankshaft connected to the connecting rod, and the main journal is the part of the crankshaft that is supported in the engine block through the main bearings. Crankpin machining is the process of restoring the crankpins, while crankshaft journal machining usually refers to machining the main journals. Both require precise control of the diameter, taper, ovality, and surface finish.
2. What is crankpin machining?
Crankpin machining is the process of restoring a damaged or worn crankpin to the size and surface condition required. It can remove defects such as scoring, wear, taper, and ovality. Depending on the crankshaft condition, the crankpin can be machined to a standard undersize, maintaining the required manufacturer specifications and tolerances.
3. What are the advantages of onsite crankshaft grinding?
The most important benefit is that the crankshaft does not need to be removed from the engine for repair purposes. This helps in reducing downtime and saving costs for transportation. The portable grinder can be used for machining and polishing the crankpins and journals to meet the specified requirements. It is particularly applicable for the repair of marine engines, generators, compressors, and pumps.
